Jesse Jackson Jr. is a former American politician who served as a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 2012, representing Illinois's 2nd congressional district. He is the son of civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Jackson Jr. was born on March 11, 1965, in Greenville, South Carolina. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later obtained a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
During his time in Congress, Jackson Jr. focused on issues such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development. He was a strong advocate for minority and low-income communities.
In 2013, Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty to federal charges of misusing campaign funds for personal use, including purchasing luxury items and memorabilia. He was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.
Since his release, Jackson Jr. has been involved in various community service and speaking engagements. He has also written a book about his experiences and is a contributing editor for the magazine Chicago Reporter.
